Walk on water…
La Mode en Images gave us the opportunity to take up a real challenge with the Balenciaga Autumn-Winter 2020/2021 fashion show. In the centre of the Cité du Cinéma, more than one hundred models walked down the water-covered catwalk under a low cloud ceiling that looked like the end of the world. The model’s walked down the flooded floor with a determined step to the beat of harrowing music. CRYSTAL made this huge pool of water black. A challenge we loved taking up!
DESIGN, CREATION, PRODUCTION
– Making a 54m x 27m pool i.e. 1,458m2, achieved using 350 marine plywood panels and 760 water-repellent chipboard slabs
– Installation of 2 liners, 1,600m2 each, for water-tightness
– Painted with several layers of black paint
– Pool filled with a water depth of 2cm
With environmentally friendliness in mind, all materials used for making the pool (wood, liner, etc.) were recycled at the request of La Mode en Images.
RESULT
The models literally “walked on water”. Our pool flooded the fashion show and reflected a heavy sky to create a striking apocalyptic world.
